Stanko named Head Coach of Pakmen Volleyball Club
Pakmen Volleyball is pleased to announce that Mr. Orest Stanko will be their first ever full time head coach. The announcement comes after Pakmen was selected to receive the Coaches Association of Ontario (CAO) Quest for Gold wage subsidy grant this past summer. The club had applicants from all across Canada, the United States and Europe. In the end, Pakmen, Ontario Volleyball and Volleyball Canada all agreed Orest Stanko was the best person for the job.
As the head coach of the University of Toronto Blues, Stanko coached the most successful men’s volleyball program in the history of Ontario University Athletics (OUA); several athletes advanced to play for Team Canada, indoor and beach. His tenure resulted in 13 OUA Championships, 14 appearances at the CIS National Championships and being named the OUA Coach of the Year, an astonishing seven times. His success at the varsity level led to an impressive coaching resume with Volleyball Canada on both national and international stages. In 2001 Stanko was the Head Coach of the National Women’s Beach Volleyball Team. Two years later he coached athletes Josh Binstock and Brian Hiebert to Gold at the Canadian National Beach Volleyball Championships.
As a former Executive Director of the Ontario Volleyball Association (OVA), Stanko played a key leadership role in the introduction of the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model in Ontario and throughout Canada. He developed LTAD implementation plans for other sports including Ontario Golf Association, Ontario Table Tennis Association and Ontario Modern Pentathlon Association.

Volleyball Canada is excitedly looking forward to be working together with Pakmen and the OVA to offer training environments on par with other top volleyball nations and implement our LTAD in the years to come.”
The upcoming season will be a season of change for Pakmen. Already considered to be one of the top clubs in Canada, Orest Stanko will help us implement Volleyball Canada’s LTAD so we can get even better.
